I have a couple of great suggestions from folks for things to do around Chicago this weekend. I’m starting today, though, with an event this Saturday, April 18, that is going on around the country – Record Store Day. I don’t know about you, but I spent a lot of time in independent record stores starting in my pre-teen years (often looking for “import” releases that I had heard on WLIR/WDRE). I still support local record stores whenever I can (we stopped at quite a few on the cross country road trip). Record Store Day reminds everyone to go to your local record store and check out some of the great music out there. Many stores are hosting live music on Saturday. Now, for those of you in Chicago, you can take your love of indie music further by attending the CHIRP Record Fair on Saturday or Sunday. CHIRP is a group that is hoping to have a truly independent radio station in Chicago. From what I can tell, they seem to have taken over what was the WLUW Record Fair (if anyone knows what’s up with this, add it to the comments please) and have added a few more elements. The CHIRP Record Fair will have live music and DJs and independent crafties in addition to vinyl sellers. It looks like most of the Chicago indie labels will be on site so it should be a really fun event. The CHIRP Record Fair takes place at the Plumbers Hall (1340 W. Washington) this Saturday, April 18 from 10AM – 5PM and Sunday, April 19 from 10AM – 5PM. Admission is $7 (funds go to CHIRP’s radio efforts) BUT if you print a copy of the image posted with this, you can get in for $5. For more information, just click here.
Again, please sign up for the feed on the right and please leave some comments or Fridays are going to be really lame!
Also – we have two bleacher tickets for tomorrow’s (Thursday) Cubs game that we’ll sell for face value – let me know if you’re interested…
