Oh this work thing – I forgot how it gets in the way of my fun thing! Of course, though, I’m happy to be working freelance and may be a full-time employee sometime soon. In the meantime…
Looking for household goodies for a steal? Check out One Kings Lane (thanks Jackie!). Once you sign up for this site, then every day-ish, you get an email with that day’s special offers. Today, you can find Emile Henry cookware and bakeware (fancy, french, lasts forever) up to 60% off, $75 Bodrum pillows for $29, and Molly West photo albums and guest books at a huge discount.
What’s the One Kings Lane hook you ask? Well, first, you have to be invited in order to score these deals (no problem there – just email me or put it in the comments and I’ll send you the invitation) and second, all sales last only 72 hours so, you snooze, you lose. However, like the invitation thing, there is a solution for the 72 hour sale – a calendar of upcoming sale events is right there on the home page so you can look ahead and mark your calendar (tomorrow starts Barbara Barry items).
If you’re on Twitter, you can follow One Kings Lane here.
Let me know if you’d like an invitation to One Kings Lane – I think you’ll enjoy the sale party there!

This week, I’m going to share with you some money saving Web sites. I started joking with Jeff that my job is saving us money while unemployed (well, really my job is looking for a job but you know what I mean). So far, so good. Hopefully, you are signed up for Groupon by now (Groupon is adding cities all the time so check to see if your city has been added since I wrote about Groupon in March) and are saving a bundle when you go out to eat with Restaurant.com (Jeff & I had a yummy sushi dinner at Yuki Hana last night thanks to our restaurant.com coupon!).
Today’s site is one of my favorites – RetailMeNot.com. I really don’t shop anywhere without going to this site first. RetailMeNot offers promo codes and links to downloadable coupons for bricks and morter retailers. Plus, the site gives you a “success rate” so you know if a promo code is legit or a scam (users can post codes, too). For example, if you type in restaurant.com you go to a page with restaurant.com offers. Some are ho-hum (yes, I know I can get a $25 gift certificate for $10 because that’s the standard price) but if you scroll further down, you can find some treasures like if you use the promo code PORTION, you can save 80% on your restaurant.com purchase!
On the downside, the new printable coupons section hasn’t had a lot of success for me. It’s new, though, so maybe that will change with time.
The key to success with RetailMeNot.com – look for stores, restaurants, and sites that you know offer promo codes. The mom & pop down the street won’t likely be on the site but DSW or Domino’s Pizza have great offers.
We all have some that are our favorites so pretty please with sugar on top, please share your favorites in the comments section! Thanks for reading Bright-Yellow!
One day, when we lived in the west loop, I drove by the H2O corporate headquarters on Madison and saw a sign that caught my eye – “Warehouse Sale This Saturday”. Since it was just down the street from our condo, I got up early, stopped at Starbucks and got in line for the 7AM opening. Jeff was a trooper and came with me and thank goodness he did – we scored big time at this sale! We bought favors for our wedding guests, Christmas presents, bath gels, lotions, and potions and more! Bargain is an understatement – they give the stuff away. Your price for practically free bath goodies? A long line and a definite warehouse setting (comfy shoes are a must!). But there are unbelievable deals to be had here!!!!
H2O once again hosts this sale this Saturday, June 13 from 7AM – 3PM at their warehouse at 845 W. Madison. You can pay with cash or major credit cards (MC, Visa, Amex) and all sales are final. I highly recommend the early morning wait in line. H2O staffers hand out numbers as you arrive and they are pretty strict about saving places in line so make sure that if you’re attending with pals, you all arrive at the same time.
If you don’t live in Chicago or you’re just not into fighting the crowds, Bath & Body Works is also having its semi-annual sale (they have it again in January). Again, if you look, you can score some great bargains – especially in the 75% off bins. The sale is also online but the bargains don’t seem to be as big online as they are in the stores.
Scrub-a-dub-dub Bright-Yellow fans!
